About Aware Flow
Find your flow, hold your awareness.
Aware Flow HK is a small flow arts brand from Hong Kong, born from a mother of two finding her way back to herself through psytrance and Dapo.
We create star-shaped fabric flow props that bring together playful movement, psychedelic art and body awareness.
Our wish is simple: whether or not you have any dance experience, we want to invite you to explore your own rhythm, feel more connected to your body, and discover moments of flow that are yours.
From the dancefloor to everyday life, a small piece of fabric can be the beginning of a journey back to yourself.
Our Philosophy
Reconnect with yourself through flow
We believe play can be more than a pastime. It can be a way to reconnect with yourself.
For us, Dapo is not the destination. It is a tool for exploring movement and noticing what happens along the way.
How does your wrist turn? How does your body follow? When do you tense up, and when does a movement begin to feel natural? We invite you to notice these small sensations.
We call this practice “moving meditation,” or “Dynamic Zen.” Rather than sitting still or trying to move perfectly, it is about bringing awareness to the present moment through movement.
You don’t need to master complicated tricks to begin. One or two simple movements, your favourite music, and a little curiosity are enough to start exploring.
Some moments may feel fluid and deeply absorbing. Other days may involve hesitation, dropped attempts or starting again and again. You don’t need to force a flow state or expect every practice to feel the same. Noticing your body is already part of the journey.
What we want to share is more than technique. It is a way of practising with curiosity, patience and the joy of being present. We hope that this awareness can gradually extend beyond the prop and your practice, into everyday life.
Designed for movement, inspired by art
We aim to create Dapos that feel approachable for beginners, while keeping the psychedelic spirit at the heart of Aware Flow.
We pay attention to weight, size and fabric, testing how each design feels in motion—not only how it looks.
When the spinning stops, the artwork can remain part of your space. Hung on a wall, in a tent or on a bag, a Dapo can carry a little festival energy into everyday life.
As Aware Flow grows, we hope to collaborate with different artists to create new patterns and styles. We want each Dapo to feel like a small moving artwork, inviting people to discover their own flow.
My Story
From Mom to Flow
A few years after becoming a mom of two, my days were filled with caring for others.
Slowly, I felt as though I was disappearing from my own story. I had little interest in doing anything that felt like it was just for me.
Then one night, I heard psytrance for the first time. As the music shifted, my body began moving naturally. It felt like a part of me that had been asleep was finally waking up again.
Thank you to @psyternet_community, the Hong Kong psytrance community that was part of that beginning.
An awkward beginning
In January 2025, at Ligor Spirit Festival in Thailand, I tried Dapo for the first time: a star-shaped fabric prop that you spin and play with.
Honestly, I hated it at first. The Dapo I tried felt far too heavy for me, and I couldn’t understand why anyone would enjoy spinning something that heavy.
My arms were tired and sore, and I worried about the strain on my wrists. I remember thinking, “Why would I put my wrists through this?” I nearly decided that Dapo simply wasn’t for me.
Back in Hong Kong, I watched my friends flow so smoothly and thought:
“If they can do it, maybe I can too.”
Before I began practising properly with a Dapo at home, I used whatever I had around me. I picked up two pairs of boxer shorts as makeshift props and kept drawing figure-eights in the air, exploring the rotation in my wrists.
It wasn’t polished, but it was a beginning.
A promise to myself
In May 2025, I bought my first Dapo: 67 cm, 370 g, single-sided, with no UV print.
To me, it was more than a purchase. It was a promise that I would stop watching from the sidelines and start showing up for myself.
As I continued practising, my attention gradually moved beyond whether I had got a trick right. I became more curious about my wrists, my body, and how each movement felt.
Along the way, I experienced moments of flow. That feeling—and the body awareness I developed through practice— became something I wanted to share.
From learning to creating
Later, a Japanese friend asked whether I would be interested in selling Dapos at a festival.
I felt unsure. I had only been playing for about four months and didn’t feel “qualified” to sell them.
But I also knew I didn’t want to simply resell someone else’s design. I wanted to create a Dapo that felt right in my own hands and body.
With no drawing or design background, I sketched around ten ideas and contacted a manufacturer to make samples.
I tested each one at home and on the dancefloor, comparing the weight, size and fabric. Little by little, I moved towards the design I had imagined: something psychedelic to look at, with a feel I enjoyed moving with.
A doorway worth sharing
At a festival on Ishigaki Island, Japan, I danced to the music with a Dapo I had designed myself.
People stopped to watch the star spinning around me and asked curiously:
“What is that?”
In that moment, I realised I wasn’t just showing people a toy. I was sharing an invitation to try something new: to move, play, and perhaps discover their own flow.
I’m not a master with all the answers. I’m someone who began awkwardly, kept learning, and found something meaningful along the way.
Aware Flow is my way of holding that door open.
I’m deeply grateful to the friends who supported me behind the scenes, and to everyone at festivals who stopped, watched, encouraged me or shared a smile. You helped me believe this path was worth walking.

An Invitation to Flow
You don’t need to put on a show. You don’t need to move like anyone else.
Start with one movement. Notice how it feels. Let yourself be a beginner.
Whether you’re drawn to the music, the artwork, or the curiosity of learning something new, we invite you to explore your own rhythm—at your own pace.
Find your flow, hold your awareness.
